altWhich raw material?

PET Power is a company that processes materials, primarily polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into end products such as bottles and jars. A precondition for a good final result is the careful choice of raw materials. The processing properties of the material and the perfect clarity and shine of the bottle or jar are decisive. But just as decisive is whether the material is permitted within the customer's area of application. Approval is always required for use in the foodstuffs sector. Consider also pharmaceutical permission in accordance with the Pharmacopoeia. Information about the raw materials used is available from PET Power. The company ensures internally that the origin of all materials used is always traceable. Pet Power keeps a close eye on developments in this area. This takes place of its own accord, but also at the request of customers wanting to conduct stability or compatibility tests.

The main raw materials

1. PET
PET, an abbreviation for polyethylene terephthalate, is a polyester plastic. This material arrives at PET Power in the form of granulate. This type of plastic is also available as film or foil. In Europe it is obligatory to note the plastic type on the container. PET can be recognised by the figure 1 shown in the designated triangle.

PET has many advantages for the end user and the processing sector:

  • It is a stable material that consistently delivers stable quality
  • It is clear, transparent and shiny
  • It is unbreakable
  • It has good barrier characteristics (gas/aroma/carbonic acid/oxygen/UV/temperature)
  • It is 100 percent recyclable
  • It is suitable for a range of forms of decoration, including printing, labelling and sleeving
  • A whole range of colours is simple to achieve
  • A multitude of final forms is possible as a result of a high degree of flexibility.

2. Other plastics
PET Power also provides rigid packaging using other materials. Consider other plastics like polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polycarbonate (PC) and polyethylene naphthalate (PEN). And this is merely a selection of the multitude of options currently available. Each material has its own unique characteristics and is thus either better or less well suited to a specific application. Here too, thorough consultation is a precondition for the correct choice - always under the motto: Packaging your brand.

alt3. Glass polymer: unbreakable 'glass'
In certain cosmetics segments, in particular the top‑quality luxury segment, manufacturers make use of impressive, thick-sided jars and bottles. They are made of glass or materials of similar appearance, like SAN and PMMA. For this segment, PET Power has in its range a series of attractive bottles and jars made of material with a co-polyester called glass polymer. These products are thick-sided and just as solid and clear as glass, but unbreakable. This material is thoroughly resistant to chemicals. Colours can be applied readily, and the product can be manufactured in small production runs. A request to a representative or an e-mail to info[at]petpower.eu will provide further information.
